MANAGEMENT OF LEADERS SOCIETY, NIGERIA
The LSN patrons’ role is to act as ambassadors for the LSN in the wider community, assist in the recruitment of strong candidates for membership and add to the value and image of LSN through their distinguished standing (academic or otherwise). They act as mentors and career advisers for members and alumni in their area of expertise, bolster the Society’s extra-curricular program of events by giving Port Talks, chairing debates and seminars and generally act as inspirational role models.
The council of the LSN functions as an advisory body to the society and comprise a maximum of 50 members chosen from amongst full members of LSN and selected world leaders.
The Board of Governors members is chosen from amongst full members of LSN; with the founding members being permanent members. The Board is the executive body responsible for the management of the LSN. Trustees of the LSN are chosen from amongst the Board of Governor Members. The Board regularly refers to the Advisory Council and Patrons for advice concerning the direction and strategy of the Society.
The Chairman of the Board is an Honourary position, whilst the Chairman of the Trustees of the Society is the Chief executive of the Society. The Chief executive is assisted in the day-to-day management of the LSN by the following staff:
- The Director of Development and external relations
- Director of Operations
- Director of Finance
- Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs
- Dean of International Faculty
- Registrar of the International Faculty
- Head of Events and Conferences
- Administrative/Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive
- Digital and Social Media Manager
Functions of the Board:
- The board is led by a chairperson who preside over meetings
- The Vice Chairperson ensures the execution of the overall corporate focus and decisions of the Board assisted by the staff.
- The board determines the strategic objectives and policies of LSN
- It monitors progress towards achieving the objectives and policies of the organisation
- The board is responsible for appointing staff of the LSN and monitoring executive performance in carrying out Board policies
- Approving annual budgets, salaries and remunerations of staff and members of Board.
- The Board shall set up the standing committees to ensure smooth execution of organisation’s object and specifically to carry out specified assignments. Each committee shall be responsible to the board, and have a Chairman and Secretary. The committees shall include:
The committee is responsible for developing accountability policy and monitoring members’ performance against it. It also oversees secretariat activity to promote learning and accountability. The committee is also responsible for ensuring our membership criteria are appropriate; making decisions on action with non-performing members.
Is responsible for creating and nurturing an environment that promotes continuous learning and personal development for all members of LSN. It also ensures a continuous sharpening of organisational vision.
Is responsible for reviewing draft financial statements and considering the external auditor’s management letter. It is also responsible for: advising governors on the appointment of external auditors; reviewing external audit plans; reviewing the effectiveness of the internal control and risk management systems and monitoring the implementation of audit recommendations.
The committee’s remit is to consider strategies for maximising LSN appeals income; develop a fundraising plan and budget for different sorts of appeal and hold a review of fundraising after each appeal.
The committee’s remit shall include working with government agencies, schools and communities in Nigeria to mount effective political education and mobilisation for citizens’ active participation democratic processes at all levels.
