[ADEBISI AKANDE LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIP]

Introduction:

The Adebisi Akande Leadership fellowship (AALF) aims to equip each of its members with the knowledge and skills required for political leadership and diplomacy in today and tomorrow’s world, and the confidence on which to base a successful political career in an African country in a globalised world. This programme is a political leadership programme of Leaders society Nigeria (LSN), a registered charitable organisation in the United Kingdom and is being delivered in partnership with academic support from Jönköping University (JU), Sweden.

The AALF is specifically designed for Nigerian/African politicians. The majority of its members will be politicians in early stages of establishing themselves in leadership or those who are already in established roles but wish to deepen their knowledge of the political issues dominating world affairs and how to best apply knowledge based skill in leading from the front. During the fellowship year you will have the opportunity to benefit significantly from exchange of experience between each other and with mentors.

Numerous academic interrogations of the intractable problems of Nigeria’s national under-development identifies faulty political leadership as a key missing ingredient in attempts aimed at national integration and economic development of the country. We at leaders Society Nigeria (LSN), are keen to contribute to the resolution of these leadership challenges.  We believe that Nigeria will rapidly break out of the circle of underdevelopment once visionary, knowledgeable and patriotic citizens who are specifically prepared for this purpose mount the saddle of leadership at various levels across the country.

We have therefore come up with the idea that identifying a role model around whom a preparation and enrichment programme comprising knowledge acquisition through academic and mentoring immersion is key to the success of birthing knowledge driven patriotic political leadership for Nigeria.

In searching for such a role model, we wanted a Nigerian political leader who has been involved at community, state and national levels in the political mapping and leadership of Nigeria. Such a Nigerian political leader must also have identifiable people-centred political ideology. We believe that Chief Adebisi Akande fulfils these criteria, and it is our aim to work with him to establish a programme that will not only benefit Nigeria, but other African countries in producing knowledge empowered patriotic political leaders who will transform their countries for the better.
